Every
time I say I’m going to blog more for Three Cheers, I always end up bailing and
then coming back and saying the same thing. So instead of making a promise,
I’ll tell you this time, that I blog pretty much when I have something to say
in full. Today is one of those days where I’ve got something to say and well, I
hope someone reads this and comments. Here’s the latest tangent.
This
post was originally designed to write a resolutions list like everybody on my
Twitter and Facebook feeds was doing. But to be honest, I’m trying to stay away
from copying people, and instead part of this post will be about some goals I
have in mind both on the blog, and in general. Another idea with this post, was
to rant about the Bengals losing a game that maybe if they had a better
quarterback, they could have won. However, when this blog was about my three
teams I cheer for, for five posts, I got maybe one or two views. So in the
interest of the 15 consistent readers, I’ll keep the sports rant short.
Finally, this post was going to be all about thanking the people who read the
column where I apologized for coming off like I was hopping on the cool kids bandwagon.
But I decided since it’s only like 15 – 25 people who come here often, I’ll
only thank the five people who kept clicking refresh on that post, to get it to
close to 400 views.
As
I type this post, it’s 9:55 pm on Saturday January 5, 2013. By the time this
blog is posted, I imagine it will be 10:32 pm. It’s been a crazy past month as
a lot of changes have happened both personally and non-personally. If I had a
more frequent comments section, I might break all the news into five or 10
different posts, but like I said, 15 – 25 people view each post every five
years, so here’s one big post. Also I’m keeping it to one post since I’ve got
no idea when I’ll post again. Without further adieu here’s the news from this
past month:
Firstly,
exactly one month ago, on December 5, 2012, I received a package in the mail
from Humber College here in Toronto, offering me a spot in the Post Graduate
Radio Broadcasting Program. Humber College is the biggest College when it comes
to Radio Broadcasting, as a ton of famous people here in Canada went through
the program. Anyways, it worked out that they made me the offer on the 5th,
but I had to accept the offer by the 7th, which I gladly did.
Speaking of the 7th, coming up on Monday January 7, 2013 I’ll be
starting the Post Graduate Radio Broadcasting Program. To say I have mixed
emotions on the whole thing would be an understatement.
On
the one hand, radio is something I’ve always had a passion for, as my two
biggest passions, music and sports wouldn’t have impacted me without a radio.
In a dream scenario, 10 months from now, in October, I’m all graduated and
working full time for a radio station living out my dream. On the other hand, I
haven’t been in school in two years, and the whole idea of going back
absolutely terrifies me. As I pointed out in that wonky apology letter blog I
referenced above about bandwagons, I’ve felt like crap emotionally for a very
long time. Meaning to say, I think the nerves of starting something new, the
fact 2013 has to be a huge year for me and just being afraid of everything is
weighing on me. My plan is to take it one week at a time, and see how I am by
end of first term in April. If I’m still loving it, I’ll keep going, but if I’m
not, then I’ll figure out what to do.
The
other big thing going on the past few months, is the fact I’ve actually been
dating a lot more. If you’re a long time reader of Three Cheers, you’ll see
that I’ve had women on a pedestal basically since I came out of the womb. Yet,
pretty much since September, I’ve been out with a variety of different girls.
While none of the dates have materialized into a relationship or second dates
with the same girl, I count the fact I’ve dated more in the past four months
then the previous four years, as a win. While I want to focus on school and
pursuing my dream of working in radio, having a girl to share my passions with
is something I hope also happens.
Moving
on to blogging, I’m happy to announce, that my good buddy Doug and I are
bringing back our music countdown blog from last year, “Down For The Count”. In
case you only read Three Cheers or DoodleBrews24, Down For The Count, is a top 10-countdown
site, where Doug or I write up a column looking at a musical topic with 10
specific things. For example, in this
blog I looked at the Top 10 songs to hear live. My goal in 2013 is to build up
“Down For The Count” and use it as a way to interact with other people that
love lists.
Which
brings me to my final thought, a goals list for 2013 over New Years
Resolutions. To me, resolutions symbolize all the things you wish you could
have accomplished but got too busy to actually try and do. Conversely, a goals
list signals to yourself that you actually want to accomplish what you set out
to do, because it will make you feel amazing. Here are five goals I want to
accomplish in 2013:
1.
Work In Something I’m Passionate About.
2.
Write My Top 10 Best Tasting Beers List
Both As A Draft And An Actual Massive Blog Post.
3.
Run The Achilles 2013 5K Race in Under 30
Minutes.
4.
Step Outside My Comfort Zone And Live A
Little.
5.
Go To More Concerts.
BONUS: Ease Away From Social Media By
Reading More Books And Being Busy.
Keep
On Cheering For A Win,

1) *further ado
ReplyDelete2) a goals list is awesome, and I'm sure you've seen my insane list of 100 of them.
3) I'm surprised that the first 5 goals don't already help you to achieve the bonus. My approach in 2013 will be if I'm trying to force myself into something for the wrong reasons — popularity, to make a name for myself, etc — I'm doing it wrong. If I'm not enjoying what I'm doing and it's not being productive, I need to step away and pursue something else.
4) I read semi-regularly; I assume you have Google Analytics set up to get semi-decent stats on your blog posts?
5) I really don't like Blogger. The fact you can't even reply to other people's comments? Seriously? Blergh.
